NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Hairdressing commencing September 2016
- Level 2 – Course Duration: 16 months
- Level 3 – Course Duration: 12 months
Students will complete the NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing within 18 months with an opportunity for successful candidates to progress to NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing.
Course Outline – Level 2 & Level 3
The NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing covers a range of practical skills and relevant theoretical knowledge to prepare students for entry into the hairdressing industry. Practical work experience will be an essential part of the course and you will already be in or seeking full time employment in an independent salon that we will work closely with allowing you to build up realistic commercial experience. Progression onto Level 3 will consist of creative cutting and colouring as part of the course.

During the course a portfolio of evidence will be collected by students for assessment. Assessment will consist of observed practical evidence and on-line testing.
What will I earn?
From 1st October 2010 a National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices was introduced for trainees aged 16-18. The rate has increased to £2.73 per hour and may vary on age at start of course. The new NMW applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the apprenticeship. You will work a minimum of 30 hours a week (Maximum 40 hours a week/8 hours a day if under the age of 18) with 20 days paid holiday per year plus 8 bank holidays. A grant of up to £1500 is available for salons accommodating our students (subject to meeting requirements)
Preferred GCSEs grade c or above in English and Maths
16-18 years of age
Work experience or Saturday work in a salon is an advantage
