We’re Backing Up and Coming Rugby League Star, Oliver Shakeshaft!

Here at Yazz Number 1 Hair Salon, Leeds, we love the opportunity to support young people who are setting out on the path to great things.

We see talented teenagers come through our training Academy each year and we love to do our bit to give people a leg up to a great career or hobby. So when we were presented with the chance to support up and coming rugby player, Oliver Shakeshaft, how could we refuse?

Oliver – a pupil at Guiseley School – is the nephew of Yazz Number 1 Hair Salon’s owner, Paul Shakeshaft. A talented player, he’s recently been awarded a scholarship to join the under 16s team at Castleford Tigers’ Rugby League Club. Of course, we’re backing him all the way – we love helping young people succeed and we’re digging deep to ensure some of Oliver’s training costs are covered.

Growing into one of the most famous Rugby League Clubs in the UK, the team consistently produces players who have achieved worldwide status in rugby. Playing in the famous black and amber strip, 32 of the team’s players have become Great Britain Internationals and 29 have played for England. Let’s hope Oliver is one of them before too long!

The funds we’ve donated to Oliver will help towards the costs for playing and training kits, facilities, pitch fees, the team’s physiotherapist and medical staff for matches.

Yazz’s Paul Shakeshaft was only too pleased to lend his support to his nephew. He says: “With our support, Oliver will be able to progress and hopefully be one of our local rugby stars of the future.  Good luck Oliver.”
Of course, Oliver can’t wait to get out on the pitch and show off his skills. He said: “The sponsorship from Yazz has helped me a lot and I’m really grateful. It puts me in a good light with the club and will help towards my new boots. I wear a special pair from Nike, which cost £230 – and the sponsorship will pay for those and some other kit.”

Oliver says he loves training with the team, who initially signed him up after watching him in action during a trial for the club. After being invited to complete a six-week trial with the under 16s team, he was snapped up after just two weeks.

Want to keep up with Oliver and his progress with the team? Simply head to the Castleford Tigers’ website to read more. His full bio will be uploaded onto the site very soon and we can’t wait to see it!

Keep an eye on our blog to learn more about some of the other young people we’ve supported over the years, including Yazz owner Paul’s daughter, Yasmin. After starting her career working in an office, she later decided she fancied a change and went to study at Yazz’s training academy – stay tuned to find out how she got on!
